This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from Italy, within the prestigious Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. appellation of southern Tuscany. Azienda Agricola Salvioni (La Cerbaiola) is a legendary, tiny cult estate situated on the high-altitude hills southeast of the town of Montalcino, legendary for crafting some of the most sought-after and soulful Sangiovese in all of Italy. Operating under an uncompromising, traditional winemaking philosophy led by the Salvioni family, the estate treats its low-yielding heritage vines with minimal intervention and profound respect for terroir. Salvioni’s Rosso di Montalcino is uniquely famous: it is made with the exact same artisanal rigor, meticulous vineyard care, and noble fruit as their world-renowned Brunello di Montalcino. Rooted in Galestro (chalky, limestone-rich schist) and pebbly clay-maris at 420–440 meters elevation, the vines benefit from constant aeration and extreme day-night temperature shifts, yielding a wine that effortlessly bridges the gap between youthful, high-toned vibrancy and aristocratic cellar depth.

Wine Description

The 2024 Salvioni 'La Cerbaiola' Rosso di Montalcino presents a radiant, luminous ruby-red appearance in the glass with clear garnet highlights. Its sensory profile is exceptionally elegant, deep, and high-toned, offering a masterfully transparent and classic expression of high-altitude Sangiovese. The bouquet opens with an enticing, multi-faceted display of fresh sour cherries, wild red plums, and crushed cranberries, seamlessly layered with complex undertones of dried violets, sweet tobacco leaf, damp forest floor, camphor, and a touch of crushed almonds. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, taut, and precisely focused, showcasing a concentrated core of crunchy red orchard fruits and orange peel. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its weight. The mouthfeel is broad yet athletic, driven by firm, fine-grained, and chalky tannins that grip the palate before gliding into a remarkably long, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of sweet cedar, iron-rich earth, and wild herbs.
