This iconic aperitif wine hails from the French island of Corsica, specifically tied to the unique terroir of the Cap Corse peninsula. The legendary brand was created in 1872 by local merchant Louis Napoleon Mattei, who named the unique formula after his native peninsula. During his historical voyages to the Caribbean, Mattei discovered the beneficial properties of cinchona tree bark and decided to bring it back to blend with the distinct local grape varieties of his homeland.

This Quinquina Rouge presents a rich, deep red profile in the glass. The nose offers an impressively complex and expressive bouquet loaded with aromas of native herbs, fresh cut grass, dried fruits, and vibrant citrus undertones. On the palate, it is beautifully structured, supple, and harmonious, offering a sun infused island character driven by a deep layer of elderflower, rosemary, and smooth caramel. The body is rich and texturally balanced, showing an intensified bitterness compared to its white counterpart that melts seamlessly into a short, warm finish loaded with pepper spice and persistent quinine dryness. The structural foundation of this aperitif is entirely an all mistelle base crafted from Corsican Muscat and Vermentinu grapes. The grape juice is fortified early to retain its natural residual sugars before being infused with cinchona bark, Corsican citron, walnut, and a secret selection of local and exotic plants, fruits, and spices.
