Alberelli di Giodo Rosso originates from the island of Sicily, Italy, falling under the Sicilia DOC / Terre Siciliane IGT classification. Serving as the red counterpart to the Carricante, this wine is master winemaker Carlo Ferrini's flagship volcanic red expression, capturing the raw energy of Mount Etna through the lens of Tuscan refinement. Sourced from a tiny 1.5-hectare parcel of century-old bush-trained vines (alberelli) perched at a dramatic altitude of 950 meters on the volcano's northern slopes, production is extremely limited.
Wine Description
In the glass, the wine exhibits a luminous, translucent ruby red hue with subtle garnet reflections. The nose is ethereal and high-toned, offering delicate aromas of wild strawberries, sour cherries, and cassis, seamlessly intertwined with dried floral notes, wild rose, tea leaves, and distinctive volcanic hints of ash, white pepper, and wet stone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple, and refined—often compared to fine Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo for its weightless structure. A translucent red fruit core is supported by polished, fine-grained tannins and a bright, citrus-driven acidity that provides stunning tension. It finishes exceptionally long, focused, and savory, leaving a lingering impression of volcanic mineral crunch and crushed lava.
